In 2022, Fasadgruppen conducted a renewed analysis to determine which of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals we are best positioned to contribute to. Based on the analysis, 7 of the goals were deemed prioritised, as they are either areas of high potential risk or areas where Fasadgruppen has a strong opportunity to drive sustainable development.
Gender equality (SDG 5)
Target 5.5 Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life
One of Fasadgruppen’s goals within the sustainability framework is to increase diversity and provide an inclusive workplace. By 2030, the Group aims to achieve a 50% share of women in newly appointed management positions, defined as Group Management, Finance Manager, Group Accounting Manager, Subsidiary CEO, Work Manager, Project Head and Project Manager. It is also very important for Fasadgruppen that all employees, regardless of gender, have salaries determined on an equal basis and good working conditions. One tool to ensure this is salary surveys.
Affordable and clean energy (SDG 7)
Target 7.2 By 2030, increase substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix
Target 7.3 By 2030, double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency
The services of Fasadgruppen contribute to higher energy efficiency in buildings. By using less energy, especially for heating, the burden on both the environment and electricity bills is reduced. We also prepare properties for solar panels and work with solar companies in the actual installation. The greatest impact is achieved when our subsidiaries work together to carry out multiple energy efficiency elements within the same project - for example, both added insulation and new energy windows. We also offer the patented SmartFront method, a unique ventilation solution that, combined with new insulation, can reduce energy consumption in a single property by up to 75%.
Decent work and economic growth (SDG 8)
Target 8.5 By 2030, achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men, including for young people and persons with disabilities, and equal pay for work of equal value
Target 8.6 By 2020, substantially reduce the proportion of youth not in employment, education or training
Target 8.8 Protect labour rights and promote safe and secure working environments for all workers, including migrant workers, in particular women migrants, and those in precarious employment
We work in a structured way to ensure that Fasadgruppen offers a healthy and safe working environment with clear safety requirements. Our Health and Safety Group strives to ensure that employee safety is not compromised and has a zero vision for both workplace accidents and long-term absence. In addition to our responsibility for our own employees, we work to ensure good conditions for employees of our subcontractors, including through regular spot-checks. To boost long-term attractiveness for a craftsmanship career, we participate in upper secondary school fairs and work with vocational training courses, as well as offering apprenticeship programmes.
Sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11)
Target 11.3 By 2030, enhance inclusive and sustainable urbanization and capacity for participatory, integrated and sustainable human settlement planning and management in all countries
Target 11.6 By 2030, reduce the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities, including by paying special attention to air quality and municipal and other waste management
Through our knowledge and our offering, we promote sustainable urban development and reduced environmental impact in line with Fasadgruppen’s vision of a future with beautiful, sustainable buildings and good living environments for people. We carry out ongoing façade renovations on properties in economically vulnerable areas, contributing to an improved quality of life and security for residents.
Responsible consumption and production (SDG 12)
Target 12.4 By 2020, achieve the environmentally sound management of chemicals and all wastes throughout their life cycle, in accordance with agreed international frameworks, and significantly reduce their release to air, water and soil in order to minimize their adverse impacts on human health and the environment
Target 12.5 By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse
Target 12.8 By 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature
A well-insulated façade is important for reducing energy consumption in buildings. Fasadgruppen therefore strives to inform our customers, as far as possible, about the benefits of improved insulation and other measures that contribute to energy efficiency. During project execution, waste and building materials are sorted at source, with non-hazardous old materials recycled and hazardous materials sent to landfill. Unused material shall be used in another project and unbroken material shall be returned to the supplier. When washing façades, only approved and chemicals with environmental declarations shall be used and the washing water shall be managed in accordance with current regulations.
Climate action (SDG 13)
Target 13.1 Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries
Materials represent the largest climate impact in Fasadgruppen’s value chain and we aim to increase the share of sustainable purchases, such as bricks produced with biogas. The decision on which material to use is in most cases made by the end customer, but Fasadgruppen can influence the decision to choose the most environmentally friendly option through information. We also require our suppliers to act in accordance with our Code of Conduct, and rank them on an A-C sustainability scale in order to increase the proportion of sustainable purchases. Fasadgruppen also strives to reduce our own climate impact through responsible transport, travel, purchasing and energy use. In addition, Fasadgruppen’s services contribute both to sustainable façades that can better withstand the impact of a changing climate and to significantly higher energy efficiency in buildings.
Peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG 16)
Target 16.5 Substantially reduce corruption and bribery in all their forms
Fasadgruppen does not accept any form of corruption, bribery, extortion, or money laundering and we work to prevent these types of activities. An important tool is the Code of Conduct, which must be accepted by both employees and suppliers, as well as the whistleblower function, which is available to employees, customers and suppliers.
